Jewelry design at Chanel Lemaire 2018

Fashion Design Institute students learn how jewelry is made at Chanel in a workshop

Chanel has been one of the biggest and most important names in the fashion and cosmetics industry for many decades. Everyone knows the logo of the house and the legendary perfume Chanel Nº 5, which, by the way, was already launched in 1922 and is considered the best-selling perfume in the world - and this despite the fact that the perfume line is only a side show of the label. The main focus of the house is of course fashion: the founder of the label, Coco Chanel designed from the 1910s a then new, functional-casual yet feminine-elegant fashion for women. Today, the "little black dress" is just as much a wearable classic as the Chanel costume with its bordered, collarless tweed jacket and flared skirt. But in addition to haute couture and prêt-à-porter for women, Chanel produces high-priced watches, jewelry, eyewear, accessories, perfume and cosmetics in the luxury goods segment for women and to some extent also for men. The workshop, which students of the Fashion Design Institute were able to attend in 2018 on site at Chanel Lemaire in Paris, focused this time entirely on designing creative and unusual pieces of jewelry. The results were quite something to behold!
